Rupsho to Kibber via Tsomoriri Lake and Tsokar Lake (15 days)

The plateaus of bare mountain ranges and green valleys to the East of Ladakh and offers habitat for some of the rare species of animal and birds of this area called Rupsho. The gleaming glaciers on the mountain peaks reduce down into rhythmic mountain streams and to the Indus River and to some of the beautiful blue lakes among these mountain valleys. The meadows of the high altitude plateaus are the homeland for nomadic herdsmen who don't have permanently settle and move from one valley to another in accordance with their old customs. A trek through these bare mountain ranges and green valleys filled with colorful flowers become famous for this unique landscape and some beautiful lakes. A campsite near a nomadic family among the wild mountains would be a unique experience to share their culture and tradition untouched by the modern world. The green valleys filled with yaks, horses and sheep as well as nomadic families living in tents attract those who are interest in a nomadic way of life. Certain camps are so peaceful that one can only hear the sound of rumbling mountain streams, the tune of the wind and the jingling sound of the horse bells. While some areas are so wild that the chill harsh wind blowing through out day and night which may also bring heavy rainfall or snowfall. Ascending up the high mountain passes, tumbling down the winding trails and crossing the rivers at certain points are part of adventure in this trek. As you reach the top of Shingbuk la one can see the beautiful lake Tsokar (4200m). Because of its salty nature, the lake looks white in color and this lake becomes the habitat for some of the endangered bird species of the Himalayas and some migratory birds. Several Tibetan and Ladakhi nomadic families can be seen around the lake. As we move further we have to cross several mountain passes, before long trek comes to an end with the magnificent sight of Tsomo Riri Lake from the highest pass of the Gyama la (5440m). Tsomo Riri is a beautiful turquoise blue lake,surrounded by high sky touching lotus white mountain peaks. And as one descend we walks across the desert plains one come across the Korzok village just above the lake, the village is home to a dozen of families and hotels, above which stands mightily the Korzok monastery. An adventurous hiker has the advantage of submitting the Metok Gangri. Where we will have spectacular view of the lake.



DAY 01 Leh to Tsokar
A fairly easy day awaits us. After an early rise and breakfast we drive along the Indus River before we cross the Mahae Bridge and reach the village of Panganaku. We will spend our first night at Panganaku.

DAY 02 Tsokar (Panganagu) - Nuruchen (5/6 hrs.)
The day starts with a delicious breakfast and a nice and easy walk along the board of the lake. After a while the view over agriculture fields and our campsite near the river opens up to us. Now you have time to rest, relax and enjoy the nature at 4500m altitudes.

DAY 03 Nuruchan-Rajungkaru via Horlamkongkala (4712 mtrs). (4/5 hrs.)
After breakfast we start trekking for about 1-2 hrs. It is an easy ascends to the top of the pass. Tonight our campsite is located across the river at the base of the Kyama Yurula pass.

DAY 04 Rajunkaru - Gyamabarma (6/7 hrs.)
Today we finish our climb up the Kyamayur La pass (5410m). The last climb is tiring but rewarding. From here we have to cross another small pass, Kartsela (5100m), with views of a group of stunning mountain peaks. We now start our descend which includes river crossings before reaching our camp at the base of Korzak Pass.

DAY 05 Gyambarma- Korzok (Tsomoriri lake) (3/4 hrs.)
After breakfast, we start our trek and cross the last and highest pass of the trip, Yalung Nyaulu (5440m). It takes around 2 hrs to reach the top. We will have stunning view of the Tsomoriri Lake. A steep trail will take us down to the Korzok village. Now you have the chance to stay with Nomads at Korzok phu in the Changthang region. Korzok is famous for the production of the finest Pashmina in Ladakh. Overnight stay in camp.

DAY 06 Rest day: Explore the Tsomoriri Lake and Korzok village
Korzok is headquarter of the Jangthang in the "East of Leh". The Tsomoriri lake (4520m) has a pearl shape and contains large mineral deposits. The lake is 28 km long and 8 km wide. The water is of sparking turquoise blue and high isloated mountains with snowcovered peaks encircle the lake. The lake is not only famous for its beauty but also for the Korzok Monastery. The Nomads (changpas) that inhabit the lake area are the most outstanding feature of this region. Overnight in camp.

DAY 07 Tsomoriri - Kyangdam (7/8 hrs.)
Today is an easy walk along the beach of the lake towards the southeast. One night Camp at the board of lake. (4595 m.)

DAY 08 Kyangdam - Skitpodangsa (4/5 hrs.)
After leaving the camp, we cross the river and walk towards the east after two hours of walking. We'll come across a magnificent spring (Chumik sharte) One Night Camp.Alt. (4563m).

DAY 09 Skitpodangsa - Getpabuzak (5/6 hrs.)
Today is an easy walk along the Parang Chu towards the south .one night Camp (4600 m.)

DAY 10 Getpabuzak - Tarang yogma (4/5 hrs.)
Today we walk in the same direction and pass several hills. Camp (4731 m)

DAY 11 Tarang Yogma - Parang la base (4/5 hrs.)
We keep walking until we reach massive rock, and then cross the river to right. O/n Camp. (5089 m)

DAY 12 Parangla base - Takkarzong (4/5 hrs.)
Today we cross Parangla (5490 m) across the glacier, the views from the top is spectacular, our camp side is near the huge rock and the water falls we will definitely enjoy the rare natural beauty of this site. One night Camp (4850 m.)

DAY 13 Takkarzong - Thangltak (4/5 hrs.)
We walk down the river towards the East along the narrow gorge, the camp site is on the Hill and is provided by spring water.One night Camp (4500 m.)

DAY 14 Thangltak - Kibber (3/4 hrs.)
We keep walking towards the east and where we can enjoy the view of Kibber village, which is located just after a small pass across the river. One night camp (4205 m.)

MARKHA VALLEY (8 DAYS)

This is the one of the most famous and beautiful trek in Ladakh and favorite trek among the trekkers due to its beautiful valleys with numerous small villages & Shepard's camps and this is the trek where we may be fortunate enough to get a glimpse of rare species like Snow Leopard, Tibetan Argali etc.


DAY 01 Leh - Spituk - Zingchan (3400m)
We leave Leh early in the morning for Spituk by jeep where horses will be waiting for our baggage and camping equipment. We will start the trek on a rough road along the Indus River and it is a long gentle walk for three hours till we enter the Zingchan gorge where the river of Rumbak flows. We walk on the rough road on the right side of the river which leads us to the campsite at Zingchan. There are two campsites in Zingchan, one is before the village and the other one is after the village. There are only two houses in Zingchan



DAY 02 Zingchan - Gandala Base (4545m)
We leave the camp early in the morning following the same trail along the Rumbak River where we enter Hemis national park and start walking gradually through a beautiful gorge which ends with a stupa. After the short walk we can stop for a cup of tea at a parachute tea stall, which is run by the women association of Rumbak. After a hot cup of tea we will continue along the river for a while then we will ascend gently towards Yurutse and we will follow the same trail which will lead us to our campsite at the base of Gandala.



DAY 03 Gandala base - Skiu (3300m)
We leave the camp early in the morning following the trail towards west with the ascend of Gandala (4900m) from where you can enjoy the wonderful view of Zanskar range and Stok range. After a short rest the trail with long descent will take you to Shingo village, where we will stop for our picnic or lunch. Further the trail leads us to Skiu through a beautiful gorge with several water crossings. The campsite at Skiu is neat and clean with toilet facilities and it is on the river side.



DAY 04 Skiu - Markha (3600m)
We leave the camp early in the morning to avoid the bright sun in the afternoon by following the trail on your left hand side where you will cross the river on right side towards Sara. After a short while we will cross the same river again for Chulak from there we will follow the same trail which leads us to Lato where we will find lots of mani walls and local deities. After crossing the river for the last time we will arrive in Markha village. The largest village in the valley which consists of around 18 families. There are many campsites with local toilet facilities.



DAY 05 Markha - Thachungtse (4100m)
It's an easy walk after crossing the river for several times until you reach Teacha monastery. It is an old monastery located on a towering cliff of around (80m) above the surface. We cross two villages known as Umlung and Hanker and the wonderful view of Kang-Yatse peak (6400m) makes the valley more beautiful. We can enjoy our meal at one of these beautiful villages and after having our lunch we have to prepare for our further trek with a gentle ascends towards our camp. The campsite in Thachungtse is near the river. (4100m)



DAY 06 Thachungtse - Nimaling (4700m)
We leave the camp in the morning following the trail which will lead us towards the wonderful plateau of Nimaling, where you can enjoy the spectacular view of Kang-Yatse peak and a small lake (Tsegu). You can see the villagers of Markha grazing their herds in this beautiful valley. The further trail will take you to the wonderful pastureland of Nimaling and which is in the laps of mighty Kang-Yatse peak and Kongmaru la pass.



DAY 07 Nimaling - Shang-Sumdo via Kongmaru la pass (5200m)
We leave the camp in the morning and after crossing the river the ascend of Kongmaru la will take us to the top of Kongmaru la pass (5200m) from where you can enjoy the spectacular view of Kang-Yatse peak. Getting down the pass is quite steep till the Shang gorge and we have to cross the river of Shang several times with the wonderful view and the strange formation of worldly rocks. Then we reach Chuskurmo (sour water). After leaving Chuskurmo the trail will lead us to Shang-Sumdo crossing the small village of Chogdo. The campsite is near the confluence of two small rivers, where it will be the last night of your trek.



DAY 08 Shang-Sumdo - Marselang - Leh.
We leave the camp in the morning walking on a jeep road along the river towards Marselang where our cabs will be waiting for us.



3. RUMSTE - TSOMORIRI (9 days)

Rumtse - Tsomoriri (9 days)

Tsomoriri Lake The high land of Changthang lies in the eastern side of Ladakh but still known as Changthang which means (northenland) because it stretches from western Tibet into Ladakh. Before you start this trek, make sure you are fully acclimatized to cross the high pass of Changthang and to make your trek wonderful. In this trek you will experience the life style of nomads and you will come across a small lake Tsokar (salt lake). Tsomoriri is surrounded by high snow covered peaks and beautiful landscapes and it is also an important wild life century, where we can luckily see Black necked crane, wild ass and many others

DAY 01 Leh - Rumtse (4100m)
We leave Leh in the morning towards eastern side of Ladakh region along the Indus River with the beautiful view of Indus valley and some famous monasteries of Ladakh on the way to Rumtse. Rumtse a small village Situated near the Leh - Manali high way. The campsite is on the left side of the road near the tourist bungalow.

DAY 02 Rumtse-Kyamar
We leave the camp in the morning and follow the trail on your left side through tourist bungalow. The trail will lead you in the eastern side of valley, after crossing the river the rough road will lead you to Kymar. The campsite at Kymar is very beautiful with big pasture lands and springs.

DAY 03 Kymar to Tisaling (4200m)
We should be fully energized today with proper breakfast for a challenging day ahead we begin with gradual ascend towards our first pass of Kymar la (4800m). This gives a spectacular view of Changthang range with its colourful mountains. After the pass we descend to the base of next pass. After a short break we set for our next pass Mandanchen la 4850 mtr, from this pass it's an easy descent to the camp site Tisaling.

DAY 04 Tisaling to Pongungu (4250m)
By now. We are well acclimatize to our conquered our third pass, the Shibuk la 4900 mtr from the top of pass we have an incredible view of the different mountain ranges end of our next destination, Tsokar Lake from the pass we walk down slowly approximately four hours to reach tsokar and our next camp.

DAY 05 Pongo Nagu to Nuruchen (4300m)
Today is an easy day. And we follow the dusty road toward Toskar Lake along the salty shores of the lake. We have rare impeccable opportunity to see some of the endangered migrate birds of the world. From here we carry on along the trail to the right of lake. Keeping to a barren land until Nuruchen. Where we will be wellcome by a grace land with streams nearby.

DAY 06 Nuruchen to Gyamabarma (5100m)
We have to get set for a tough day ahead. We will cross very cold steams in Nuruchen before gradually ascending Horalamkonga La 4900 mtr. From the pass we will have the view of the turquoise blue Tsokar, After an easy forty minutes walk down to Rajung karu we will encountered several typical Tibetan nomad with that flock of yak sheep and pashmina goats, flow a stream for around fifty minute we will entered another nomad settlement after a small rest we will continue to ascend the Gyamarula 5400 mtr this pass is challenging in nature but the wonderful view from the top makes it well worth all over strenuous efforts. From the pass we descent gradually to the valley toward our camp site at Gyamabarma 5160 mtr.

DAY 07 Gyamaberma to Gyma (5200m)
We open our eyes in the morning. We find our self amidst herds of grazing g. after breakfast we will move towards our next pass. Kartse la 5300 mtr ascending slowly in the thin air of the plateau. We will eventually reach the pass. The trail leads gradually down to green valley of the Gyama where we spent our night

DAY 08 Gyama to korzok (4500m) Today we gradually ascend towards the highest and last pass of the trek, following the narrow valley until the Nyalung la 54370 mtr we can have view of the snow capped mountain from the top of the pass. We will also have a view of Tsomoriri Lake. We descend steeply for a couple of hours to the korzok phu. From the korzok phu you continue to the korzok village (Tsomorir Lake where we are going to spent our night)

DAY 09 Korzok to Leh
We drive back to leh along the gorge of mighty Indus River with all sweet memory of the trek.

The Itinerary

LAMAYURU - ALCHI

Trekking from Lamayuru to Alchi is a beautiful and interesting experience, Where we will come across some of the oldest and most famous monasteries in Ladakh founded around 11th century by great translator Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo. Lamayuru gonpa is remarkable built on natural pillar like formation of sand stone. Lamayuru belongs to Drigungpa order of Tibetan Buddhism. Alchi Choskor is the most famous and largest of all the monasteries built by Rinchen Zangpo the great translator and the Alchi monastery is very well known for its paintings and wood carvings.

DAY 1 Lamayuru - Wanla (3420m)
We drive from Leh in the morning towards Lamayuru which is around 125 kms west of Leh. It takes 3 hrs along the Indus River through Sham Valley visiting the monastery and you get ready for your 1st day's adventure. Start walking east along the stream for 20 minutes & then you cross the stream near the Stupa. We will gradually move up to the small pass Prinkti la (3750m) from where the gentle descend from the pass takes you in the Shilakung valley and the last hour will take us to the camp site at Wanla.

DAY 02 Wanla - Tar la base (4200m)
Today we will walk on a dusty road along the river coast for 2 hrs till we reach the small village of Phenjila (3410m) and from there we will follow the left side of the valley along a small stream for an hour and arrive at the village of Ursi. After crossing the village we will reach the camp site near the school.

DAY 03 base of Tarla-tar
The trail from the camp is clear but challenging as we have to climb the gentle ascending of Tar la (5250m). But the moment you reach the top you will forget all your tiredness looking at the wonderful view of Karakoram range and many other ranges. Getting down is difficult due to no proper way. It takes 3-4 hrs to reach the camp.

DAY 04 TAR - MANGYU
From Tar village the path heads up along the mountain side to a small pass known as Heptila. We will a gentle descent on the right side which leads to the Pass of Mangyu. From there we can see the village of Mangyu and an ancient Monastery. The monastery of Alchi & Mangyu both were founded by the great Translator Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo.

DAY 05 MANGUY - ALCHI
We will end our last day by walking down a beautiful valley along the small river, and then we will reach the village of Gera where our vehicles will be waiting to take us back to Leh visiting famous monastery of Alchi and Liker.

5.KANG YARTSE (6400m) EXPEDITION

Kangyatse Expedition

Kang Yartse peak is situated at the back of the Ladakh Range along the Zanskar Range.it is much higher and more technical than Stok Kangri. The peak is at the height af 6400mtrs. and is famous for its wide variety of views that it provide from the top. Thought the climbing part is bit difficult, we can enjoy the exciting views of the valleys below, the mountain ranges and the Rubsho high land mountain ranges. On the way from Shang Sumdo, we can see beautiful, multicolored Rocky Mountains and some wild animals living among those mountain ranges


DAY 01 : Leh to Chu Skurmo
Early in the morning, the jeep will pick you up from your hotel and drop you at the trekking point at Shang Sumdo. From there we start our trek along the stream in the deep valley. The trail ascends up along the valley and on the way we can enjoy the beautiful multicolored Rocky Mountains and some wild animals like blue sheep. As we keep ascend along the trail we'll reach a small village called Chu Skurmo which is the first camping site of the expedition. Overnight stay .



DAY 02: Chu Skurmo to Lartsa
The days trek also start wit the gradual ascend up along the river with several river crossings. Though the landscapes remain almost same, the Rocky Mountains become sharper and some wild animals are expected to see on the way. The trail is a bit dangerous during when it rains heavily but most of the time the water level remains low. Then a sharp ascend up at the last point, we we'll reach the Lartsa camping site just at the base of Kong Marula pass..



DAY 03 Lartsa to Base Camp
Today we'll start our trek a bit early as ascending up the pass is a bit high and steep. Take the winding trail up the pass and it will take almost two hours to reach the top of the Kong Marula pass (5100m). From the top we'll have some beautiful views of Kang Yartse at the back and the ladakh valley at the front. Take some time to enjoy the views and start descending down gradually to reach the nomadic high land pasture called Nimaling which is just before the Kang Yartse peak. From there, we'll take the right trail, gradually ascend up the grassy slope for around an hour and reach the base camp right in front of the peak.



DAY 04 Base Camp to Summit and back to Base Camp
It is recommended to start the climbing a bit early at around 1.30 A.M. so we should be prepared with all the gears and torches. First we have to gradually climb up along the Rocky Mountains for around 45 minutes. Then we will ascend up along the snow patches for some time and the climb become steeper before reaching the top. And our crew will fix the ropes and the clients should follow the instructions of the guide to avoid mishaps. At the last part we have 300 mts. For steep climb to summit. Form the top we can enjoy the horizontal panoramic views of Karakoram and Zanskar Ranges. Feel at the top of the peak for some time and start descending back to base camp on the same trail.



DAY 05 Base Camp to Lartsa
Get a good relaxes at the base camp after the tiring and satisfying summit and early in the morning the next day, start your trek back to Lartsa on the same trail. While coming back, ascending up the Kong Marula is gradual but descending down to Lartsa is a bit steeper.



DAY 06 Lartsa to Chu Skurmo
Today's trek is a bit easier on the broken trails along the stream. After crossing the stream for several times, we'll reach the camp site at Chu Skurmo.



DAY 07 Chu Skurmo to Shang Sumdo to Leh
From Chu Skurmo the trail is not so good but the trek is quite easy because we are descending down the trail along the stream. After around three hours, we'll reach the Shang Sumdo. Take some rest and the jeep will come to pick you up from the camping point and drop you at the hotel.

6. CHADAR TREK (6150m)

Chadar Trek

This Chadar Trek allows us to penetrate this isolation and also to examine some of the villages along the Zanskar River in the midst of winter and thus catch a glimpse of the lifecycle during this unique time of the year. A visit to the ancient monastic establishments of Karsha and Zangla promises to heighten our insight into the mysteries of this Shangri-la, a land and culture frozen in time behind the ramparts of the Zanskar Mountains. Chilling and Lingshed are the only sizeable villages on this trek until Hanamur and Pidmo before Pishu and Zangla in Zanskar, all the rest are names of places and caves along the route.




DAY 01 Leh - Chilling(5 hrs drive)
In the morning drive to chilling along with our porters from Pishu village of Zanskar, visit coppersmith workshops. Dinner and overnight stay at guest house.



DAY 02 Chilling -Zaribago (5 hrs)
In the morning set out for a walk on ice of the frozen Zanskar river, Chadar. Feel the thrill of adventure. Dinner and overnight stay at cave.



DAY 03 Zaribago - Deepyokma (5 hrs)
Today we will trek up to Dipyokma. Dinner and overnight stay at cave.



DAY 04 Dipyokma to Nyrakpulu (5-6 hrs)
Trek up to Nyrakpulu. Today we will camp below Nyarak village, ten minutes up along a small stream. Dinner and overnight stay at the cam



DAY 05 Nerakpullu -Killima (5 hrs)
Trek up to Killima . taken 5-6 hrs.



DAY 06 Day 13 Killima -Karsha
In the morning drive up to Karsha. Dinner and overnight stay in my house with my family. It is depending with the condition of weather and the snow.



DAY 7 Karsha
The rest day at Karsha. After breakfast visit Karsha Gompa. Dinner and overnight stay at home.



DAY 8 Zangla and back to Killima drive.



DAY 9 Zangla -Sarakdo
Trek up to Sarakdo. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.



DAY 10 Sarakdo -Nyrakpulu
Today we will trek up to Nyrakpulu. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.



DAY 11 Nyrakpulu -Tsomopaldar
Trek up to Tsomopaldar. Dinner and overnight stay in cave.



DAY 12 Tsomopaldar - Tilatdo.
Today we will trek up to Tilatdo. And direct drive back to Leh Dinner and overnight stay in hotel or guest house.



DAY 13 Leh
Full day of rest in Leh. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.



DAY 14 Leh -Delhi
